Beating the averages

Currently, there exist a lot of programming languages that gives us different functionalities, but how do we have to select the correct programming language for our projects? The reading Beating the Averages talks mainly about how to successfully select a programming language and how that correct decision about the programming language could give you a significant advantage over your competition. The author tells his personal story leading a technological startup. One thing that I like about the reading is the advices that constantly the author mentions about managing a startup. He said that the way that a startup could have success is being different that your competitors. So, in the case that he is telling, he and his partner, knowing practically nothing about business, take a technical choice that gives them a great advantage. He said that almost anyone used Lisp to develop software, but for them it was a great and powerful option. The fact that almost anyone used Lisp gives them a big opportunity to explore the language and exploit it. The author said that the way you could correctly select a programming language is analyze your needs, then you should search for a language that could fit that needs. That gives you a great opportunity to have powerful and simplest software development, so you can go one step forward from your competitors. Another interesting thing that the reading mention is the fact that programmers try to avoid low level languages, they prefer to use high level languages and compilers that translates that high level code into machine language. Generally, I’m agree with the author, you must always use the language that best fit your needs. Also, you should seek for a language that makes you the software process simpler, in order to reduce costs and, eventually, prices and not to be an average programmer.
